Residents Invited to Review and Comment on City Budget
The city of Phoenix is in the process of preparing its 2009-10 budget, which will include reductions to city programs and services of more than $162 million. Residents are invited to attend community hearings to discuss the proposed budget before final decisions are made. Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday at Awards Breakfast
The 23rd annual “Stand Up for Justice” event will be held 7 - 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 340 N. Third St.
The event will honor six winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Living the Dream Awards and one winner of the Calvin C. Goode Lifetime Achievement Award.
Public Library Winter Reading Program
“Catch BookBreath @ your Phoenix Public Library,” kicks off Jan. 12 and runs through March 14 at all library locations.
Children up to 18 years old are eligible to participate in the program - find out how they can earn prizes by spending time reading or listening to books.
Phoenix Homeless Winter Respite Program
The city's family services centers are accepting donations of blankets and new, warm clothing items for the community's homeless living on the streets.

Protect Your Plumbing From Freezing Temperatures
Although Phoenix does not get near as cold in the winter as other parts of the country, we are still susceptible to freezing temperatures occasionally, which can catch us off-guard.

Arizona Cardinals Welcomed at Council Meeting
Mayor Gordon and the City Council welcomed Arizona Cardinals Team Manager Mike Bidwill and mascot Big Red to the Jan. 6 policy session. Mayor Gordon declared Jan. 9 will be "Arizona Cardinals Day" in Phoenix.
